The Jordan Elizabeth Harris Foundation presents Let’s Taco ‘Bout QPR! A FREE, suicide prevention training combined with Taco Tuesday to bring our community together and give every person the confidence and competence to help someone at risk for suicide.
QPR stands for Question, Persuade, and Refer — the 3 simple steps anyone can learn to help save a life from suicide. This evidence-based training course teaches you how to recognize the warning signs of suicide, offer hope to people in crisis, and get help to save a life.
According to the Surgeon General’s National Strategy for Suicide Prevention, a gatekeeper is someone in a position to recognize a crisis and the warning signs that someone may be contemplating suicide. Gatekeepers include parents, friends, neighbors and many others who are strategically positioned to recognize and refer someone at risk of suicide.
QPR training takes just one hour and is taught in a format that is clear and concise. Gatekeepers are given information that is easy to understand and a QPR booklet and card complete with warning signs, methods to encourage a person to get help and a list of resources available in our community.
Just as people trained in CPR and the Heimlich Maneuver save help save thousands of lives each year, people trained in QPR learn how to recognize the warning signs of suicide crisis; question the individual’s desire or intent regarding suicide; persuade the person to seek and accept help; and refer the person to appropriate resources.
Special thank you to our wonderful and amazing 2021 sponsors!
Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?
QPR is recommended for middle school aged children to adults. In fact, attending this training with your kiddo is a great way to open the lines of communication regarding suicide and things they may be seeing or watching on social media or TV. Plus, tacos!
What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?
Parking is available in front of and behind Ensemble Coworking.
What can I bring into the event?
No need to bring anything! We will provide you with a QPR booklet upon completion of the training.
How can I contact the organizer with any questions?
Please contact Kristi Wiley, Program Director, at k.wiley@jehfoundationfw.org.
