It's easy to think that the medications in your cabinet at home are purely helpful - relieving pain, sniffles and sleeplessness. In the hands of a teenager considering suicide, however, these medications can be deadly.

The annual number of suicide attempts by teens through self-poisoning has more than doubled from 2000 to 2018. It's time to take action to understand the dangers of over-the-counter medication and the role they play in this trend.

Parents and caregivers can begin addressing these issues by pledging to lock up your household medications. Reducing availability can reduce suicide attempts. And when you sign our digital pledge, you can receive a discount on a lockbox of your own.

Once you've taken the pledge below, you can go a step further by signing up to attend a special KAMS QPR suicide prevention training on the next page. You'll receive a lockbox FREE!

TAKE THE PLEDGE
✔ With The Jordan Elizabeth Harris Foundation, I pledge to help build a world where suicide is never the choice. That world begins inside my home. I pledge to educate myself on mental health and the signs that someone may be considering suicide.

✔ I pledge to talk with my teenagers about their mental health. I will pay attention to any signs of suicidal thoughts that my child may show.

✔ I pledge to protect my family from the dangers of self-poisoning by keeping over the counter medications in a safe place in my home.

Share the pledge with your friends and colleagues to spread our message of suicide prevention. With your help, we can make our homes safer for kids struggling with suicidal thoughts.
